Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe (Old Hong Kong)

HOLLYWOOD ROAD

A little gem of a shop nestling in the bustle of Hollywood Road. The owners greet you with smiling faces and ask whether you're looking for an antique opium pipe, a birdcage, a delicate pair of jade earrings or just a "mammoth tusk snuff bottle" (see below).

A little snapshot to show the harsh juxtaposition of the old and new that is strikingly present in the streets of Hong Kong. The old building on the left had a small display of Chinese art being sold by the artist sitting by the lamppost. The modern building is undoubtedly built on the site of a building similar to its ancient neighbour.

A little nook in the area near "Cat Street" with a melange of stores selling lucky jade trinkets according to your Chinese zodiac sign. I bought one for myself, one for my sister and one for Mr Geisha. Here's hoping that 2012 will be a great year!

Beautiful Chinese calligraphy by an elderly man completely absorbed in his work. I could have watched him carefully paint bold strokes of gleaming gold ink on the vibrant scarlet paper all day long.

Isn't Hong Kong magical? :)

Love,
Geisha
